It was a season long competition that began in May in Michigan City, IN and ended in September in Bay Harbor, MI. The 333 Broadcast Championship came down to the wire as the season’s final four were on hand for a 2-day, 3 fish, winner-take-all contest for this brand new TT Title and of course, the Little River Casino Resort Big Check for $10,000!
The teams in contention were Early Bird from Grand Haven, Hour Time from Sturgeon Bay, WI, Diabolical from Petoskey and Verdict III from Ludington. Even after Day 1 it was simply too close to call. Day 2 may well have been exactly the same if not for one huge king…
Verdict III, who passed on weighing anything on Day 1, brought 3 fish in on the second day for a total weight of 46.50 pounds. Diabolical posted an 18 pounder on day 1 and added their 2nd and 3rd fish on day 2 for a total of 47.60 pounds. Hour Time went with two fish on day 1 scoring just over 35 pounds. Their 3rd fish on day 2 gave them a total of 47.90 p0unds. That’s a total of 1.4 pounds separating those 3 teams!
Early Bird may well have found themselves right in that bracket as well, except they managed to find one thing that the other 3 teams could not. That one thing was a Day Two 20 pound king – 22.25 lbs to be exact! It was plenty to elevate them to a final score of 58.55 pounds and secure the first ever 333 Broadcast Championship! In addition to the title Early Bird also cashed in on the Little River Casino Resort Big Check for $10,000 and scored a nice little getaway package to check out Little River for themselves.
It was a fantastic season and I want to thank each of the teams that were involved. While it may not show up at the events or even on the show itself, participation did require considerable effort, commitment and compromise on the part of each of these teams. The show would have been impossible to produce without their dedication and reliability.
